IV. A. 2 Plain spindle whorl of convex conical shape

The spindles that were used to produce the yarn for the Weaving House on the Timpone della Motta were of the low-whorl drop spindle type.

This whorl, of a simple shape, would be suitable for spinning slightly heavier yarns. The wear marks around the hole show that it was much used before it ended up in the sanctuary on the top of the Timpone della Motta.

The object is associated with Temple V.c on the Timpone della Motta, Scavi Kleibrink 1991-2004, no. AC04.04.wh206, National Archaeological Museum, Sibari.
